Get to know the CPA exam study strategies from Prerna Agarwal

Keep doing MCQ’s and practice tests at regular intervals to keep the data fresh. Make notes after every chapter. This helps with retention.

Read the explanation after each MCQ and TBS. It helps to know you did it correctly or the technique needs improvement. Read all answers to understand why the right one is right. The Skill videos are amazing in Becker and should be utilized.

FAR: For FAR as the portion is a lot, I would suggest keeping revising using the practice tests. This helped me retain things. All parts are important in FAR. It’s a myth that Governmental Accounting comes a lot.

I had less than 10 MCQ’s on it. Everything is important. Need to know all topics in equal measure. AS this was my first exam, I was all charged up and gave my best shot.

Also, accounting is something I understand so didn’t put in extra effort into anything. Just read things. Also, I was in between moving houses and had to pack and unpack my whole house.

I stayed in a hotel for almost a month because our lease at our previous house was over and our new house was still being constructed. Probably the need to give it my best kept me going. I gave the exam a week after I moved into my new house.

AUD: For me, this was the easiest. For a lot of questions, you need to pick the best answer, so you need to read the text carefully and choose the best one. Read the explanations to understand.

BEC: Although the easiest for most, I found this to be difficult. There is a lot of data to process, and I gave this exam within 30 days of AUD. I was burned out by then because I had been studying continuously since October. I gave this at the beginning of March just before things closed for COVID. Individually the chapters would make sense, but I felt I Kept forgetting the first module by the time I reached the third. For WC, look at skills videos. Mike Potenza has done a good job with them.

REG: Probably the newest subject as tax laws are different; it kept me engaged. I enjoyed reading the subject and trying to understand it. This subject probably needs 3 readings. The understanding of topics grows with each time you read. Use all the tools of Becker like skills video and tax form videos to get a better grasp of things. Making notes really helps with this subject.

I hope this helps someone and there are a few points that can be picked up. I know most people would prefer the third reading, but I wanted to get this done sooner so just did 2 readings of all the subjects.

Hope sharing my experience can be a help.
